Somatic Experiencing Personal Sessions for SE Students & Practitioners in Marietta, GA

SE Personal Sessions for Students

You can't take a client somewhere your own nervous system hasn't been.

Somatic Experiencing training is unlike most clinical education. It doesn't just ask you to learn new techniques. It asks you to become someone whose nervous system can actually hold what a client brings. Someone who is genuinely present, not just technically competent. That kind of presence doesn't come from coursework. It has to be lived in your own body first.

SE personal sessions with Dr. Baker give Beginning level students the chance to experience the work from the client's seat. To feel what it's like when your nervous system is tracked, followed, and given enough safety to do something different. Most students find that one session changes how they understand everything they've been learning in training. Not because they learned something new. Because they finally felt it.

WHY PERSONAL SESSIONS MATTER

The best SE practitioners know the work in their bodies, not just their minds.

SE training has a way of opening things. Material surfaces in demonstrations. Your own patterns show up in practice sessions. The theory starts landing not just intellectually but somatically, and sometimes that's a lot to carry without a dedicated space to process it.

Personal sessions hold both the clinician and the person. They give you direct experience of what your clients will experience, so the work stops being something you understand and starts being something you know. And they give you a place to stay regulated through a training process that can be as personally activating as it is professionally significant.

Working with a certified SEP means you're not just getting support. You're getting a model. Every session is an opportunity to feel from the inside how pacing, tracking, and the careful movement between activation and settling actually works. That embodied understanding is what no training manual can give you. And your clients will feel the difference.

WHAT THESE SESSIONS OFFER

What you bring to personal sessions

Your own nervous system work. These sessions are first and foremost therapeutic. You bring what you're carrying, what's alive in your system, what training has stirred up. The work follows from there. This isn't supervision or consultation. It's your own healing, happening alongside your clinical training rather than separately from it.

A felt understanding of SE you can't get from a manual. Experiencing SE from the client's seat builds something that watching demonstrations never can. You develop a real sense of how the work actually feels from the inside, what it's like when your nervous system is genuinely tracked and followed. That changes how you sit with clients in ways that are hard to articulate but immediately felt.

A place to stay regulated through the training. SE training can be activating. Personal sessions give you a consistent space to settle what arises between modules, so you arrive at each training weekend more grounded and more available for the learning.

A living demonstration of clinical presence. Every session with Dr. Baker is a chance to experience what it feels like to be in the room with a regulated, attuned clinician. That experience shapes how you show up for your own clients. Your clients will feel it before you can explain it.

ABOUT DR. CB

Working with a practitioner who knows both sides of the room.

Christine came to SE through her own nervous system. She knows what it's like to sit in the student chair, to feel the training open something unexpected, and to need a space where that can be held without judgment or agenda. That experience isn't incidental to how she works with SE students. It's central to it.

She is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and has over a decade of clinical experience in trauma work. Supporting the development of other clinicians is a core part of her practice, not something added on.

Sessions are available in-person in Marietta, GA and online, and are open to therapists and practitioners enrolled in SE Beginning level training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are personal sessions the same as supervision or consultation?

No. Personal sessions are therapeutic, not supervisory. The focus is entirely on your own nervous system and your own healing process, not on case review or clinical guidance. That said, what happens in personal sessions has a way of deepening clinical work in ways that supervision alone rarely does. When you experience the work from the inside, something shifts in how you hold it with your clients. That shift doesn't come from being told about it. It comes from living it.

Personal sessions are also a recognized component of the SE certification process. Dr. Baker is approved to provide personal sessions for Beginning level SE students working toward their certification hours.

How often should I schedule personal sessions during training?

There is no set requirement for frequency, but the most valuable approach is to spread sessions throughout your training rather than completing them all at once near the end. SE training has a cumulative quality with each module building on the last and often opens new material personally. Having personal sessions woven through that process means you arrive at each training module having integrated what came before. You show up more settled, more available, and more embodied in the work. That continuity makes a real difference.

What does it cost?

Personal sessions with Dr. Baker are priced specifically for SE students:

$100 per 60-minute session for SEI scholarship students $175 per 60-minute session for all other Beginning level students

These rates reflect a commitment to making personal sessions accessible throughout your training rather than something you have to save up for at the end.

Can I start personal sessions before I begin SE training?

If you're curious about somatic work before your training begins, you are absolutely welcome to work with Dr. Baker, and that work can be genuinely meaningful preparation for what SE training will ask of you personally and professionally. Sessions before training begins would be standard individual therapy sessions at the regular rate of $220 per hour rather than the SE student rate. The reduced student pricing applies specifically to personal sessions completed as part of the SE certification process. If you'd like to explore that, reach out and we can figure out together what makes the most sense for where you are right now.
